Quiksilver’s Men’s 2.5mm Highline Ltd G-Skin Azip GBS Steamer is a performance steamer that we can honestly say is unique in design. The 2.5mm wettie carries a lot of the same great design features that you see across Quiksilver’s premium Highline range. But this limited design takes a new approach when it comes to high-performance, taking on a retro-performance cross appearance combining Glide Skin panels with an asymmetrical chest zip.
The Asymmetrical chest zip is what really catches the eye in this design – we’re used to seeing angled chest zips, but this pullover style zip has a particularly exaggerated angle. We’re making asymmetrical surfboards now, so why not wetties? It’s actually underneath this zip where things start to get interesting; clips hold the panels together which when undone make getting into your wetsuit easier, and once done up create a nice fit and good water seal. There’s even a pull tab here to help you get your wettie on and off without tearing at the Glide Skin exterior. Once you pull the collar over your head, connecting the zip is easy. The shape of the zip helps to guide it into place so it’s way less fiddly than normal. Take a look at the pics to see what I’m talking about.
Because of where the zip meets the shoulder, the fit of the collar panel seems to contour here better looking more ergonomic. It might also be intended to help with water sealing. In any case, it looks like Quiksilver’s onto something here and it’s worth trying it out yourself.
To back all this crazy design up there’s quality neoprene and lining. StretchFlight x3 neoprene is renowned for its flexibility and warmth, as well as lightweight and fast-drying properties. Glide Skin exterior is a hydrophobic coating that looks sleek and works to keep water off your wetsuit so wind chill isn’t a factor. Warmflight thermal lining interior adds substantial warmth on top of the StretchFlight x3 neoprene.
It’s also worth mentioning that all this is put together with our environment in mind – neoprenes are now limestone-derived, not petroleum; recycled materials are from scrap rubber tyres and neoprene and jersey offcuts; water-based glues are used to avoid toxic solvents. It’s not perfect but there’s definitely progress evident here.
To get the most out of your wetsuit we recommend washing it with Wetsuit Wash & reading our maintenance guide.
Quiksilver Mens 2.5mm Highline Ltd G-Skin Azip GBS Steamer Features:
- A-Symmetrical Chest Zip: A pullover chest zip design with an angled zip across the chest. This means more flexibility through the back panel where you need it most for paddling. For more info on wetsuit zips check out our entry systems blog
- GBS Seams: Glued and Bling Stitched Seams are a flexible stitching design, where stitching only partially penetrates the neoprene panels to bind them together (not completely through both) so no pinholes are created for water to get through. Glue is then used to reinforce the seams and seal them off. For more info check out our seams blog
- StretchFlight x3 Neoprene: Warm, lightweight, fast-drying, flexible. What more could you want?
- Glide Skin External Jersey: Keeps your dry so wind chill’s less of a factor and helps you to warm up quickly. Keep in mind this material is more prone to tears than regular jersey
- Warmflight Thermal Lining: Extra warmth on the interior of the suit you see in most performance steamers
- Easy Entry Clip System: Makes getting in and out of this wettie easy by making the hole you have to slip through a little wider. There’s even a pull tab to help you out
- Sealed Wrists and Ankles: Keep the cuffs where they should be and stop water flushing
